Participate in our advent projects
Advent is a time for hope and anticipation. During this season we wait for God's arrival celebrated at Christmas. We want to approach the season of advent looking for God's newness to change us - our hearts, our families, and the city. Jesus Christ is not hope for a few insiders. He is hope for all of us, especially for those with great needs. So during Advent, Incarnation is sharing God's hope with the city in two very practical ways.
First, we are gathering gently used warm coats during Advent. The New York Cares Coat Drive is a wonderful opportunity to share hope with others in the city. Please donate a warm coat of any size, and we'll make sure they get to people who need them this winter.
Second, Incarnation is partnering with Just Food (justfood.org) to sponsor a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Project. We're looking for 20 to 30 individuals or families in the neighborhood willing to buy a "share" of a local farmer's produce for the upcoming growing season, June through October. The cost is around $20/week for fruits and vegetables, about what you'd pay at the store. But it enables us to become part of a local economy, providing an urban market for farmer's produce and keeping more family farms in business. And you get local, fresh food that comes a few miles, rather than a few thousand miles, which is good for the environment.
We want to practice generosity as well. For families who would like to participate in our CSA, but cannot due to financial reasons, we have challenged ourselves to raise $1,000 during Advent. We hope the funds can subsidize the cost for these families to participate. So will you join the CSA? And if you have the means, will you give an extra gift towards our $1,000 Advent goal?
